How did a speech teacher end up in educational technology?

Simple, really! At the very first staff development I ever attended in 1994, a librarian showed us how to connect a computer to Texas' TENET system. I was astounded. I'd been a computer user for a long time but saw no need for connecting to other computers. That day changed my life (and I tell that librarian that all the time!) as I became connected.

As I learned more, I realized that our district didn't have the "follow-up" trainings beyond the basics I already knew. They asked me to create one and the rest is history!

Too bad all my staff development time wasn't as useful!

Welcome!

I am an Instructional Technology Trainer for a major urban school district in El Paso, Texas. I love podcasting and the possibilities of MUVE (multi-user virtual environments) such as Second Life for education. I'm always pushing boundaries! The 21st century is an exciting place and the classroom should be right in the middle of it!

OK, while I was at El Paso ISD, I hosted a television show. It was called Technology Tips and it's no longer in production. I did, however, record over 120 of them. Well, Rice University's ECOT has encoded several of them! They're found here!

Presentations

I have presented at many local, state and national conferences, including NECC, T+L2, TCEA (TX) and FETC (FL). I was also asked to present on podcasting at the Power Of One Conference in March 2006 in Boston.

I have a support page for one of my presentations (T+L2, 2006) here.

Online learning

I have a Moodle site! Click here to enter it! Presently, the only course is open to anyone, though it might not be most people's cup of tea! In the future, it might be restricted as it is updated for my 2007 presentations.

I am also the manager for my school district's Moodle implementation as well: find it here.
